Five Questions That Will Reveal If You Have What It Takes To Run A Successful Info-Publishing Business

Over the past 20 years, we’ve talked to a whole lot of aspiring info-publishing entrepreneurs. We’ve tracked their successes and failures. And all of this made us realize something important…

Not everyone is cut out to create and sell information. Not everyone is able to create wealth with infoproducts. The question is, are YOU?

Now let me be clear here…

If you’ve been working on your info-publishing business and haven’t been successful, that doesn’t mean you won’t be. Past failures or slow progress are not an indication of whether you have what it takes to make it big in the info-publishing world.

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” ~ Thomas A. Edison

Indeed, “failing forward” – meaning you push ahead and learn from your mistakes – is one way to achieve your dreams.

So, with that caveat out of the way, let’s take a look at the five questions you can ask yourself to determine if you’re cut out to be an infopreneur…

Do You Know Something That Others Want to Know?

Without even knowing you, I already know the answer to this question: yes. The answer is yes, you know something that others want to know. And not only do they want to know this information, they’re willing to pay you handsomely for it.

Here’s where a lot of aspiring info-publishers get stuck. They think there’s no way they know something that others would want to pay to learn. Or if they get over the idea that maybe they do have some knowledge that others are willing to pay for, they focus on low-cost information – something they can sell for $5 or $10, tops.

Hint: a good path to wealth is to create products at higher prices. You can do this – and we’ll show you how. (More on this in a moment.)

Do You Have a Passion for a Specific Topic?

In many cases, there is considerable overlap between what people know and what they’re passionate about.

Makes sense, right?

When you’re really excited about a topic, you read up on it… a lot.

  • You watch videos
  • You talk about it with others.
  • You do the thing that you’re reading about.

And in taking all of these steps, you become an expert on a topic you love.

Some people will tell you to chase the money. But time and again, people who try to do that end up making zilch. They’re bored, or in some cases they even hate what they’re doing. That means they’re easily distracted.

Tell you what, this business requires focus. If you can’t stay focused on your success, then your success is going to slip between your fingers. That’s why you want to start with something you’re passionate about.

If you love it, you’ll stay focused on it. And it won’t even feel like work, because you’ll love every minute you invest in your business.

"You have to be burning with an idea, or a problem, or a wrong that you want to right. If you're not passionate enough from the start, you'll never stick it out." ~Steve Jobs

You know what sort of passion I’m talking about, right?

It’s that passion that gets you springing out of bed in the morning because you can’t wait to get to work.

It’s a passion that has you randomly thinking about your business, just because you’re so excited about what you’re doing. And yeah, it’s a passion that works just as well as Red Bull at keeping you alert and wanting to keep going – even when you really should be in bed.

That’s the dream, right? To truly love what you’re doing, and to make a boatload of money doing it.

If you’ve got the kind of passion we’re talking about here, then you’re going to be so much further ahead and then everyone else who’s just chasing money and doing things they hate.

Now the next question…

Do You Have a Burning Desire to Succeed?

This is a big one – do you REALLY want to succeed?

Now maybe you’re thinking that’s a silly question. Of course you want to succeed, right?

Over the years, we’ve talked to a lot of people who said they wanted to run a successful info-publishing business and make a lot of money. But their actions didn’t reflect that 'supposed' desire. And in many cases, people wanted their success to fall into their lap without too much muss and fuss.

See, anyone can focus in and work like crazy on a project for a couple weeks or even a couple months. However, that’s about when the initial enthusiasm wears off, and so many people quit. If they’re not running on adrenaline with all the excitement of their new project, they quit.

In other cases, we see people who seem afraid of success. They like their life and the status quo. Even if it’s not perfect, at least it’s familiar.

It’s almost like they don’t want to pull in that first million, because they’re afraid of how that will change their life, their relationships, or even how they do their taxes.

If that sounds familiar, then you need to ask yourself: does your desire to succeed burn brighter, hotter and longer than any fear that may be niggling in the back of your mind?

If you can honestly say that you have a burning desire to succeed, then move onto the next question…

Info-Publishing Made Easy

Are You Willing to Get Serious?

There are some people that get into the info-publishing world and they just dabble. They create a product, they generate a little traffic, they make a little money. And it never really goes any further than that.

If that’s what you want to do, that’s fine. But don’t tell me you want to get serious if you have no intention of doing anything but dabbling.

The second group of people say they want to get serious, but they got a bucketful of excuses about why things aren’t going to work out, why they shouldn’t take a specific step and so on. And then they wonder why their info-publishing business hasn’t generated any significant amount of money, yet.

Sure, in a sense there are always going to be a few excuses that you could – in theory – use to explain away why you’re not successful yet or why you don’t plan on using proven steps to start and grow your business.

But the most successful people don’t make excuses. They buckle down, they do the work, they accept responsibility when they mess up, and they learn from their mistakes.

“He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.” ~Benjamin Franklin

Let me make it clear: the excuses end here. If you have an “excuse,” then maybe you just have an obstacle you need to overcome.

For example, you might say “I’m new at this.” Well… then you’re going to have to buckle down and start learning the ropes, just like everyone else. (We were all new at one time.) Making excuses will never make you any money, but overcoming those excuses will put you on the path to success.

So tell me, are you willing to get serious? If you said “yes,” then move to the final question…

Are You Willing to Let Others Help You?

Maybe you fancy yourself as the lone wolf, as if somehow it’s more noble to conquer the info-publishing landscape all on your own rather than enlisting the help of others

Maybe you feel like you’ll appreciate your first million more if you figured out how to do it yourself.

I’ll tell you what I see every day in this business: lone wolves burn out. They waste an incredible amount of time and money trying to figure it out themselves and run every aspect of their business by themselves too.

And most of them never succeed, because they’re trying to carve out a completely new path, rather than following in the footsteps of the successful people who came before them.

That’s just plain foolish.

Yes, I said it. It’s absolutely foolish to try to do everything yourself when you could launch yourself off the shoulders of successful others.

“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants” ~Isaac Newton

Can you think of a single example of a wildly successful person who did it ALL on their own? I can’t.

For example, some people will point to someone like JK Rowling and say she wrote those Harry Potter books all by herself. Yes, that’s true...

But someone else edited and polished her manuscript. Someone else created the cover graphics. Someone marketed those books. And still another group of people turned her books into movie magic. I’m even willing to bet she read a few books about how to be a better writer at some point earlier in her life.

Do you think Rowling would have created her billion-dollar fortune if she tried to do it herself? Can you imagine her doing everything from cover graphics to starting up a movie studio to directing and everything else in between?

Spoiler alert: it never would have happened, not in a million years.

The path to wealth is to focus on the things you’re good at – especially the high value tasks – and let someone else take care of the rest.

What you’re trying to do is no different than JK Rowling or countless other rich and successful people around the world, and that means one thing: you need to accept help.

Why spin your wheels and get stuck in a rut, when you can just hire smart people do these troubling tasks for you?

Why spend years learning the business when you could pick up a few resources and spend a few days learning all about it? Let people who’ve been there and done it before you SHOW you how to do it.

If you can honestly tell me you’re going to accept help, then I have something I want to show you.
