Are You Sabotaging Yourself With Success Limiting Beliefs?

Have you ever thought that something internally may be preventing you from achieving success in your career, business or life in general? Maybe even without realizing it, you have some success limiting beliefs that are stopping you from being the profitable entrepreneur you know you can be!

We have been listening to our subscribers and this seems to be a question that many of you are asking yourselves.

Normally our articles are about the art & science of better marketing but this article is going to share some wisdom about how your internal and limiting beliefs could be holding you back from the success you truly deserve in your life.

Ready? Good.  We are going to start at the very being...

Harvard University shows the brain develops very quickly during the first years of life. It’s been said that the most crucial milestones in a child’s life occur by the age of 7. So, the evidence shows us that we soak up everything we hear during those first years and our young brains believe it to be true.

During these years we develop our most powerful, and often times most life-limiting beliefs that can stick with us for the rest of our lives.

All of this information is held in our subconscious, and it's there to keep us safe. It's how we learn that the campfire is hot because it burnt our hand, or how we know to look both ways before crossing the street because our parents drilled that home with us every single
day.

However, some of these beliefs hold us back in life and keep us in
a state of fear and ignorance.

Success Mindset

Do you ever find yourself thinking...

  •  "I can't do that because"
  • "I don't deserve that because"
  • "If I do this something bad is going to happen"
  • "I can't do this because people will think"

Do any of those statements sound familiar?

Bet you've said them to yourself on more than one occasion. Many people do. Any of those simple statements pop into your mind on occasion (or much more often).

Below are a few questions to ask yourself that will dig
deep your subconscious and identify if you have some limiting beliefs that you may not even realize you had.

Can you identify a limiting belief that has held you back?

It might be hard to identify success limiting beliefs, but we can all pinpoint at least one belief that has held us back throughout our lives. It might not be obvious, but if we look back we can usually see it.

Here is an example of actions that could happen because of limiting beliefs... Maybe you didn't put together a new online course to sell from your website because you didn't think you were "smart enough."

Or that gap year trip after high school you wanted to take never happened because you didn't think that was "responsible" and you went straight to college instead?

Why do you tell yourself these things?

Now you have some examples of a limiting belief, did you find one that you have used yourself?

Is there truth to your belief?

Has something happened to you recently to reinforce the belief? Or is it something you've believed for as long as you can remember and you don't really know why?

Here are some questions to ask yourself that may be a reason you sabotaged your success...

  • Did something happened to you when you were a kid
  • Something happen to you last week
  • Maybe you've just never been told it's okay.

Keep asking these type of questions until you find something that feels right, something that may give you the answer.

Then think... are these true factual beliefs or just...

Most beliefs are just that, beliefs.

Beliefs and facts are two very different things. Snow is cold.
We know that because we can feel it. There's no debate to that fact. It can be measured.

The fact that you believe you aren't smart enough for that job is subjective and just your opinion.

There's no way to prove it with 100% certainty.

If you look hard enough you can find someone not as smart as you doing exactly what you want to do.

The only thing stopping YOU is YOUR BELIEF!

So now that you have figured out that you are your own worse enemy because of non-factual beliefs. What is holding you back from changing those beliefs? Fear maybe? Fear of failing?

The most successful people in the world are those who keep pushing forward and NEVER let their failures define them.

What happens if you challenge your limiting belief?

Let's say you wake up one morning and tell yourself you're not going to let that belief control your decisions anymore. What will happen?

  • Does your life change for the better?
  • Do you do things that you've never done before?
  • Do those things change your life for the better?

What's the worst possible thing that could happen if you challenge your belief? How does this change your daily life?

Most of our fears boil down to being rejected, humiliated, embarrassed, isolated, and so on.

How debilitating would these things be if they were to happen? Is bettering your life and giving up the belief worth the risk?

Usually, the worst thing that can happen is a failure. And even when we fail, we wake up the next morning with another chance to try again.

Winston Churchill said, “Success is not final; failure is not fatal:
It is the courage to continue that counts."

Is the only thing keeping you from success your own doubts?

You can achieve anything if you’re willing to work on it. Don’t listen to your doubts, listen to your dreams.

The most successful people are those who have charted their own, unique path. Don’t follow someone else’s dream.

If you’re going to achieve your dreams, you’re going to have to push your boundaries and do things you’ve never done before.

Ask yourself...

What are you doing on a regular basis that's contributing to your limiting belief?

Are you reinforcing your negative emotions related to the belief?

Are you letting the opinions of others influence what you believe?

Are you avoiding doing things that would eliminate the belief?

Sometimes our biggest fear is the fear of being more than we ever thought we were capable of.

Make sure you aren't holding yourself back on purpose. Don't hold yourself back from your own dreams...

Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it "

What would you gain if you overcame this limiting belief?

How much better would your life be if you simply stopped believing in something that has no weight to it?

Think of the freedom you could gain. The dreams you could make come true.

John Rohn Quote

What would you do to overcome this success limiting belief?

Think of how much happier you could be. Would you even be able to make the lives of people around you better if you were to overcome this belief?

Most success and happiness is just on the other side of a negative belief.

Make sure you aren't keeping yourself from getting there.

Limiting Thoughts

Ask yourself these questions whenever you find yourself thinking "I can't" or "I shouldn't" or "I don't deserve it."

Make sure that thought is the reality and not just a limiting belief that's holding you back.
